Artist Statement

Artistic Philosophy

I express myself through a range of mediums, from graphic design to charcoal, acrylic, and oil paints. My artistic process is often intuitive and emotional, an unrestrained release of creativity. For me, art is a form of escapism—a way to create beauty or transport viewers to another world, often without a deeper, fixed meaning. This is evident in works like my two-body series, "The Backs of Beauty," and the painting, "Devyn." Both pieces feature vibrant colors and gestural brushstrokes as a foundation for expressive energy, paired with finely rendered elements like the backs in "Elaine" and "Gabriel" or the detailed lower face in "Devyn."

Key Works

In contrast, my graphic design and drawing practices are more structured. Each piece begins with a clear objective and a targeted style. For example, in my design for "Rescue, Mend, Restore," I aimed to capture the comforting atmosphere of an elderly woman’s living room, reflecting the story of a woman who rehabilitates wounded hummingbirds. These projects prioritize communication and clarity to engage viewers and tell a story visually.

Future Goals

While most of my works are not deeply personal, my painting "Love Me Deeply" is an exception. It explores themes of loneliness and the longing for connection—emotions that felt distant and difficult to fully articulate. Moving forward, I aim to create a series of works exploring personal experiences with body image and racial identity. Through this series, I will reflect on themes such as the sexualization and repulsion of the body, as well as the complex feelings of disconnection and erasure tied to racial identity. My goal is to create art that not only resonates with viewers but also deepens my own understanding of these experiences
